Vera Wang Princess: Background
Vera Ellen Wang was born in New York City on June 27, 1949. Both her parents, born from Shanghai, China migrated to the United States in 1940. Her mother employed by the United Nations while her her father owned a medicine company. While in high school Vera trained as a figure skater and even competed in the 1968 U.S. Figure Skating Championships. Wang graduates from Sarah Lawrence College, where she majored in art history. Soon after, Wang gets employed as an assistant to a fashion director at Vogue. Working there for 16 years Wang decides to leave and starts working for Ralph Lauren as an accessories designer.
Vera Wang Princess: Looking For Her Wedding Dress and the Beginning of her Designs
After some years of dating on and off businessman Arthur Becker, Wang gets engaged and starts to plan her wedding. After looking for the perfect wedding dress and unsatisfied with the wedding dresses available, she hires a dress maker and creates her own design. The dress was estimated at $ 10,000. Because of this frustration and with the financial help of her father, Wang opens up her shop in the posh Carlyle Hotel on Madison Avenue.
Vera Wang soon became a household name in upscale, couture wedding dresses, outfitting the likes of Victoria Beckham, Hillary Duff, Jennifer, Gardner, Kim Kardahian and many more A-listers and socialites. In 1994 Vera Wang designs the ensemble worn by figure skater Nancy Kerrigan. This is where she receives international notoriety. Not happy with just wedding dresses and figure skater creations Wang starts designing evening apparel.
Vera Wang Princess: Home Collection, Diffusion Line, and Fragrance
In October of 2001, Wang launches a home collection line and enters the world of home goods, sold at a variety of retailers. In 2005 Simply Vera is showcased exclusively at Kohl’s with her ready to wear collection. Wang’s fashion sense inspires her into creating many fragrances including Vera Wang for men, Truly Pink, Vera Wang Signature, Look, Bouquet, Sheer Veil and Vera Wang Princess. Princess is a scent that arouses, captivates with its fruity floral scent, but is not too strong, just perfect for the modern day princess.
